Rotten Customer Service-McDonald’s

We ran through the McDonald’s drive through on our way to church band practice tonight. My husband placed the order clearly and concisely and it came up correctly on the little screen. They thought he ordered Diet Dr. Pepper like me but really he said Diet Coke. That wasn’t really an issue and he didn’t correct them.

We paid and got our food, then pulled into a parking space to get “set up” so we could eat on the way. I opened the bag and there was one medium fry and one large. We had both ordered large. The fries were cold. We were going to make due. Then I opened my bag (my daughter and I were going to share a 10 piece chicken nugget). I had asked for ranch and buffalo dipping sauces. It registered clearly on the order screen. In the bag were two barbecue sauces. GREAT. I don’t care for barbecue sauce.

I walked into the restaurant and waited patiently (well, maybe not so patiently) for the folks behind the counter to acknowledge me. When they did, the MANAGER took the medium fries, threw them away and gave me a bag with a large fry inside. I told him about the sauce mistake and asked again for one ranch and one buffalo. He threw in one ranch and handed me the bag. Assuming he hadn’t heard me, I reiterated my request for the buffalo sauce.

He said, “You only get two sauces with a 10 piece nugget.”

“You only put one ranch in this bag,” I replied.

“You got some barbecue sauce,” he pointed out.

“Yes, but I ORDERED ranch and buffalo. I don’t eat barbecue sauce.” Still trying to be patient.

“Where is the barbecue sauce?” He asked.

“In the car,” I said, realization dawning on me, “You want me to go get it?” I asked incredulously.

“Yes, I do,” he said, “food costs.”

“You’re kidding.” I stared at him a few seconds longer, truly not believing what I was hearing. He made no moves to laugh or say he was kidding so I whirled around and stormed out. I got in the car and ranted to my hubby about the incident and sitting here now, 4 hours later, I still cannot believe it. That takes customer service to a whole new low, even for McDonald’s. They messed up my order and should have been apologetic and bending over backwards to fix it, not quibbling over a 5 cent cup of dipping sauce.

You can’ t get good help ANYWHERE.
