Adventures in Parenting - Sharing
I have determined today that it is a very good thing that new siblings don’t arrive already at a point where sharing and playing together is necessary. We are in the process of our first sleepover today. My daughter’s little friend, Lily, slept over last night and the girls have been playing all morning. What is the problem? My daughter is having an awful time sharing her stuff. This is odd since she plays at Lily’s house twice a week and they share with no problem. I can only assume that it’s because she’s having to share her stuff, not Lily’s. She isn’t mean about it, but every time we make her share, she dissolves into the most pitiful crying jag you ever saw. We have had to take away several items to diffuse the situation because there was only one of something. Other times, we have forced the issue, using the “you can have it for two minutes, then Lily gets it for two” method. I am tired and not going to get a nap today. Since we plan to have more children at some time in the future, I am very grateful that they start out as babies so she can get used to one before it wants her toys!
