Baby Shower Games, Part II

The third game we played at the baby shower Saturday was “pass the parcel”. The basic idea is to take a gift you purchased for the mom-to-be and wrap it in several (10-12) layers of wrapping paper. On each layer, you put a sticker that gives instructions for passing. Things like, “pass to the woman with the most kids” or “pass to someone in a blue shirt”. That person then removes one layer of wrapping paper, and follows the instructions on the next layer. Some layers say “gag” and the guest has to pick something out of a hat that they will do. After they perform their task (examples listed below), they get to pick the next person to pass the package to and so on. Some possible gags include:

-Messy baby, wear a bib for the rest of this game.

-Baby’s poopy! Change her diaper blindfolded in 30 seconds or less and win a prize! (for this one, you need a baby doll, a diaper, a blindfold and a timer.)

-Diapers need soaking! Move the dirty diapers from the water to the clean bowl blindfolded and win a prize. (For this one, you put tissue paper into a bowl of water and have the guest wear a blindfold and rubber gloves, then use tongs to move the wet paper into a new bowl. If they do it accurately with no spilling, they win a prize.)

-Baby’s bored! Sing or say your favorite nursery rhyme to entertain him.

-Baby’s sleepy! Sing your favorite lullaby to help him go to sleep.

-Oh no! Mommy’s water just broke. Daddy’s first words are ________________! (You get some interesting ones here.)

You can use some creativity and make up your own gags and your own passing instructions. This game can be tailored for a few women or many, depending on the size of your crowd. It’s a lot of fun. We had everyone laughing several times and I also encouraged cheering one another on which made it -more interactive. The last layer of wrapping paper says “pass to the mommy-to-be” and she gets to keep the gift.
