Switching Rooms, Part II
Well, she did it! Our daughter slept her first night in her new room and she did great! No crying, no fear. She was still lying her her new bed this morning when I went upstairs to get her up. We did use a few anti-fear measures to get her to do it. First, she is afraid of the car noise on our street at night. She always likes being in our room because we have a fan going all the time, which drowns out the noise. Our solution? We found an old white noise machine with a big button that she can turn on and off by herself to drown out the noise from outside. It makes her feel like she has control of the problem. Second, she is afraid of the dark, so we let her pick out a new night light for beside her bed. She really liked having a choice and voila! It’s like the fear of the dark is gone! Finally, we told her she could leave her door open so our cat could wander in and out of her room at night and she liked the idea of having some company. Overall, the move is working out beautifully.
