And a Good Saturday Mornin’ to YOU!
So it’s Saturday morning and hubby and I are sleeping in. My 4-year-old has strict instructions to stay in her room (adjacent to ours) unless she has an emergency. She normally does pretty well. She gets out of bed and plays with her toys or looks at her books. However, yesterday morning (Friday) she got up to go to the bathroom and came to me in my bed and starting bugging me, obviously ready to get up. I told her that she could get in bed with me and lie still or go back to her room because I wasn’t ready to get up yet. I was alone in bed then because my hubby had gotten up and was downstairs getting ready for work.
This morning, she opens her door and comes flying into our room, fake crying and goes to hubby’s side of the bed. He’s still half sleeping and does not realize it’s a fake cry so pulls her into bed with us and she immediately stops. She then starts playing, happy as a clam until she throws one of her toys and hits me in the face. At this point, hubby informs her that she can either go back to her room and play or lie quietly in bed with us. She chooses the latter and inevitably, 10 minutes later, everyone is up for the day. I realize that wanting to sleep until 8:30 or 9:00 when you have a young child is asking a lot, but I know she’s capable. We’ll be working on this in the coming days and weeks. . .Kids are so smart.
