Not Always What It Seems

Published by mombloggerj at 7:00 pm under Parenting Edit This

To continue my advice from yesterday, don’t be too quick to jump to conclusions when your child says something outrageous. Case in point-one day this week, my 4-year-old told me she wanted to go and live with Grandma. Assuming she was angry with me about something, I asked her why she wanted to do this. She replied with the usual, “Just because I do.” Against my urge to probe her further, I let it go. Later, we were playing with her toys and she said, “I want to live with Grandma because I miss her and I don’t get to see her very much.” Wow. Something I took as a statement made in anger directed my way actually had nothing to do with me. She missed her Grandma and living with her seemed like the easiest solution. Sometimes I forget that the brain of a child doesn’t work quite the same as the brain of a grown-up.
