When Kids Hit Their Heads

Published by mombloggerj under Parenting Edit This

We had a scary experience at our house this evening. My almost 4-year-old daughter fell from the top of our 2nd floor stairs all the way to the bottom. She tumbled down and landed on the hardwood floor, presumably on her right shoulder and left forehead, since that’s where the red marks were. I was in another room and heard her falling but it took a minute for it to register in my mind what was happening. Then I raced (though it seemed like slow motion) to the top of the stairs and down. She was lying on her tummy, getting up, crying. She has a perfect corner etched in her forehead where I think she hit the hardwood tile. I was in a panic because I couldn’t imagine that anyone could fall down that many stairs and land on their head and be okay but apparently she is. We’ve been watching her for 5 hours and she shows no signs of a concussion or brain injury. I am so grateful that she is okay. Now, per the nurse at Children’s Hospital, we need to wake her up every 4 hours just to be sure she’s okay. That’s why I’m still up at 1:00 am and thus begins a long, long night.
