A Blog About Blogging
I was just reading an article on MSN Slate about how bloggers make money and I found myself wishing I could be one of the lucky ones. The problem is, most money-making blogs are written by niche bloggers who have set themselves up as an expert in the field and it’s been my experience that most niches are over saturated. For example, I’ve chosen to make this blog about parenting and other things that are of interest to the mom crowd but I can’t even count on two hands all the other mom blogs that are out there. The other thing that tends to set a blog apart (even in a super crowded niche) is a blogger who can distinguish themselves as unique in some way. While I think I have a unique voice, that really doesn’t matter. In fact, that’s a lot like the contestants on American Idol who think they’re bound to make it to Hollywood until the judges snap them back to reality and they find out that if anything, they’re just average. I dream of being a niche blogger who posts once or twice a day, then sits back and watches the revenue pour in but right now, I’d have to categorize that as a pipe dream. I think what really makes a successful blogger is a good amount of talent, some creativity, an engaging writing style and a ton of good luck.

I agree with your post except for the luck part. I think rather than luck it’s more of an advertising issue. The more the blogger advertises the better and that’s the key.
