The Grocery Store

Published by mombloggerj at 8:00 am under Fun Stuff, Girl Talk, Parenting Edit This

I don’t know why, but I truly hate to go grocery shopping. Any other kind of shopping is awesome but that weekly chore of going to the store for food is such a pain. I make a list, which is usually longer than I want it to be, then set off for an hour amongst the shelves of food, reading labels and looking for sales. I typically spend more than I want to and get home only to discover that something is forgotten. That’s why I typically put it off until the last possible minute, when we’re out of everything (think that’s why it costs a fortune?).

If I go to the store hungry, I’m in for a shock at the cash register. It seems I buy one of everything in the store and then some. My growling stomach causes me to use my list only as a guide and pick up anything that sounds good. If I go when it’s too crowded, I get frustrated and inevitably forget something important but I hate the store so much we tend to just make do until my next trip.

It seems silly that something as simple as buying groceries for my family could be a pet peeve but it truly is. I woke up earlier than I intended this morning and realized I had to go the store today so I just got up and got dressed. I’m writing this blog right now as a method of procrastination. I guess I’ll sign off and get started. I’m curious as to how many other moms feel this way. If you’re one of them, leave me a comment!

I’m one of them. Funny thing is I just mentioned this in my blog today.

Part of my problem with it is I’m not a people person, so the people who feel that the middle of the grocery store aisle is to be used for the sole purpose on socializing with someone they haven’t seen in five years get on my nerves.

I want to run them over with my cart, and I probably would if the cart didn’t have that one reject wheel that makes it veer off to the side so you have to fight it the whole time you’re pushing it.

Ooh, that’s another thing I hate, the carts. You’d think in this day and age they’d come up with a cart that’s more ergonomic and keep the wheels in good working order. . .

I used to love going grocery shopping, but it is no longer fun for me either. I think cause we are so rushed and have so much to do. If I can actually spend some time and shop and get exactly what I need and want, then I enjoy myself. But since food prices have skyrocketed I just about leave the store in tears cause I can’t afford any of the stuff I used to. I keep working more and more to make more and more money, but prices are increasing too rapidly. I need the hours in the day to increase so I can work more!

I forgot about the price thing being part of what I loathe. The amount it costs to feed my family for a week is quite ridiculous. Also, we try to eat healthy (low fat, whole grains, fruits, veggies, etc.) and that stuff costs a whole lot more than junk food I’ve found. That just seems wrong!
