A Day at the Zoo!

Published by mombloggerj at 6:40 pm under Fun Stuff, Parenting Edit This

September is a great month to visit the local zoo.  I took advantage of the cooler weather today to take my daughter and her little friend to the zoo.  We had an awesome day!  The girls had ice cream cones for a morning snack (special treats make a day extra special!) and got to ride the carousel and brush the goats in the children’s zoo.  Then in Big Cat Country, a momma tiger had 5 little cubs roaming around the habitat with her.  So cute!!  Other highlights included watching two huge hippos swim in circles around their little pond.  They came so close to the glass they actually touched it a few times, pushing off to swim some more.  Then we saw an elephant taking a bath.  That was really cool until she dropped a load in the water and it started rising to the top.  It looked like little cannon balls.  As we were leaving, the girls were calling, “Bye zoo!  Bye lights!  Bye trees!”  You get the picture.  They had an awesome time and so did I.  I highly recommend St. Louis Zoo to anyone how lives nearby.  It’s open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. year round (closed only on Christmas and New Year’s Day) and it’s free!  For the first hour, the carousel and children’s zoo are free to the public.  Our strategy was to ride the carousel a few times, then make it into the children’s zoo at around 9:50.  Once you’re in, you’re in so we spent about an hour walking around and seeing the sites in the children’s zoo before departing to check out the rest of the grounds.  An awesome autumn activity.
