Mom Talk

As the remnants of Hurricane Ike dump record amounts of rain outside, I can’t help but appreciate the benefits of a rainy day.  It’s Sunday morning and we have to get up this morning and get ready for church.  That part was hard since it looks like nighttime out, BUT after only one bout with the snooze button, here I am.  Church will be enjoyable as usual and then afterwards, we get to come home, put on our lounging clothes, eat lunch and settle in for a nice long nap.  There is no better background noise for a nice nap than steady rain hitting the windows and the roof.   The rhythm is almost mesmerizing.  It’s days like today when my husband, daughter and I (and probably the dog) will all snuggle in our big king size bed together and get a great rest in.  Afterwards, I may read a novel or just watch TV.  Somehow, a good rainy day slows the pace of life a little and we remember to take it easy and enjoy the small, simple pleasures.  What’s your favorite rainy day activity?
